A summary of Roald Dahls short story ‘First Day’. This have been used with a mixed ability Year 7 group after we worked on an a piece of writing about their first day in seconday school.

This is a detailed lesson plan for a KS3 class. This particular class is primarily focusing on AFOREST and how it can be used within a Room 101 presentation. This particular lesson plan was used for an interview lesson. The plan has a ‘Do Now’. guidelines on teacher input, assessment, individual practice and also a plenary with notes to the side. This lesson plan is just a guide, it does not include resources (PowerPoint, exercises) and it is a ‘Read Only’ document.

This is a resource I used with my KS4 students on their Coursework A for Pearson IGCSE Edexcel. This was used after students were due to submit their final piece of work. Advertising PowerPoint for Year 7's to give them an insight into some of the techniques used within advertising. The lesson includes going trough the basics such as terminology and also embedded YouTube clips embedded showing certain TV advertisements which can be used for Q&A sessions. You can choose your own logo's for the final pair exercise depending on your class.

This lesson focuses on Steinbeck’s use of language to create atmosphere at the start of the novel. Students start ‘Do Now’ in relation to connotations, followed by a think-pair-share to talk about other connotations. Students then read the start of the novel and answer questions before completing a main task. There is also a hinge question and plenary to check understanding. This Lesson focuses on students’ first impressions of Lennie within Of Mice and Men. It will be clear to students that appearances are deceiving with Steinbecks use of language and the reality of Lennie’s character. This lesson is perfect for an English class on their first day back at school for KS3. The studied poem is ‘Summer Goes’ by Russell Hoban. The lesson primarily focuses on how the students in your class can relate to the speaker in the poem after summer ends. The resource has a PowerPoint and a copy of the poem included.

This lesson starts by taking students real-life knowledge into account by starting the class by asking students to write how the weather outside makes them feel? The lesson then builds on this knowledge by giving students extra information. The main activity is to read a chapter from The Hobbit where pathetic fallacy is used.

This presentation concern the use of the internet within media studies. This presentation gives the advantages and disadvantages of the internet. It also gives students the opportunity to work in pairs and individually.

This resource is part of a lesson I had for an inspection where we focused on Dickens’ portrayal of Fagin. This extracts focuses on Fagin’s final scene. This exercise can be done in pairs or individually. It is also differentiated to higher and lower to allow all students to access it. Students first read the extract and then answer the questions on the sheet.

A presentation I used for my students to plan a question from the 2009 Leaving Certificate examination. The emphasis is on the students to plan their own answer to the question after being prompted by certain themes and Q&A discussion within the class.

This can be used for an English or Extra English class. Within the PowerPoint it prompts students to think of the context and the books setting. This leads students to use empathy with the characters within the book.

This is a lesson plan which was used during a recent inspection with a group of Year 9 students while studying Great Expectations (both play and novel). The main task here was to analyse Dickens’ portrayal of Fagin from an extract from the novel. This allowed students to have empathy for Fagin in comparison to their original view of him via his appearance and how he is described by Dickens. A PowerPoint resource for Seamus Heaney's Blackberry-Picking. The poem is broken into small pieces and explained with key words underlined with several questions posed to students. The meaning of certain phrases in the poem is also explored for example Heaney's personification of the blackberries.
